Wagner Faith & Freedom Center Helps Host Educational Experience in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Wagner Faith & Freedom Center, in partnership with Spring Arbor University, recently helped host an educational excursion to Washington, D.C., bringing together SAU faculty, staff, and friends for an immersive experience exploring American history, constitutional government, and the nation’s Christian heritage.
A highlight of the trip came when the group welcomed U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg (MI-05) for a special visit and conversation. Congressman Walberg participated in an interview with Spring Arbor University President Dr. Brent Ellis, providing participants an opportunity to hear his personal Christian testimony and learn firsthand about public service and the work of Congress. Before entering public office, Walberg served as a pastor in Michigan and Indiana and later worked with Moody Bible Institute, bringing a distinctive background in ministry and education to his years of public service.
Throughout the excursion, Hon. William Wagner (Ret.), WFFC Distinguished Chair for Faith & Freedom and Distinguished Professor Emeritus, delivered three short mini-lectures and offered additional constitutional and Christian worldview insights as participants encountered the institutions, monuments, and historical sites that have shaped the American experience.
The program included a guided evening tour of Washington’s monuments and government institutions, providing an opportunity to consider both the sacrifices that have preserved American liberty and the constitutional principles underlying the nation’s system of government. Educational excursions also included the Museum of the Bible and George Washington’s Mount Vernon, among other historic destinations.
“Washington D.C. becomes an extraordinary classroom when we move beyond simply seeing these historic places and begin asking what they teach us about faith, freedom, sacrifice, and self-government,” Wagner said. “Our hope was that everyone returned home not only better informed about our nation’s history and Constitution, but also encouraged to consider how a Christian worldview calls each of us to faithful citizenship and service to others.”
The excursion reflects the Wagner Faith & Freedom Center’s continuing educational mission of equipping people to think carefully about faith, freedom, constitutional government, and the Rule of Law.
